How to skip ads in Apple Podcasts

Updated

Apple Podcasts doesn't detect or skip ads. The ads you hear are in the episode itself, read by the host or inserted by the show's network, so Apple has nothing to switch off. There are three ways around them.

1. Make the skip button jump further

On iPhone, the Podcasts settings let you choose how far the skip-forward button jumps. A longer jump gets you through a break in fewer taps, though you still have to catch each break, and a long jump can overshoot into the show.

2. Subscribe to the show's ad-free version

Some creators sell subscriptions inside Apple Podcasts, and some of those include ad-free listening (Apple's page). The creator sets the price, show by show. Episodes you pay for there play in Apple Podcasts.

3. Play the show in an app that skips the ads

Most shows on Apple Podcasts publish a feed that other podcast apps can play. Paste the show's Apple Podcasts link into Podsnap, or search for it there, and the same episodes play with the ad breaks skipped: Podsnap transcribes each episode, finds the sponsor reads, inserted ads and cross-promos, and jumps over them while you listen. A break it isn't sure about gets a one-tap skip button, and Undo brings back any skip. How the skipping works.

Why are my podcast ads in Spanish?

Inserted ads are picked by the show's ad network when your app downloads the episode, usually by where the network thinks you are. A VPN, travel, or a network that guesses wrong can bring ads meant for another region, in another language. The show itself is unaffected, and an ad-skipping app skips those breaks like any other.
